# How to Start a Background Check

## Learn how to initiate a screening through Vetty

Getting your candidates screened with Vetty is quick and simple. Whether it’s a background, health, or verification check, you’ve got a few easy ways to start. Once you add your candidate, Vetty jumps into action sending them an email and text (if enabled) so they can securely provide their information and keep things moving.

### Adding a Candidate in the Vetty Portal

1. Log into Vetty at [https://client.vetty.co/](https://client.vetty.co/)

3. Fill in the candidate's information 
     1. First Name
     2. Last Name
     3. Email Address
     4. Phone Number (optional)
     5. Select the check box if you would like to enable text messaging
     6. Enter the **Expected Employment Start Date** (optional). \*Must be a future date\*
     7. Select **Department** if using something other than the default
     8. Select **Location** if using something other than the default
     9. Select the **Package** you would like to run on the candidate
4. Users with certain permissions will be able to add more items to the order with the **Modify** button. 
     1. **Note:** You cannot remove items that are in the package.

1. Once ready, select **Next**.
2. You will see an additional information page. If all information is already provided by your package, you will see green check marks next to the check name. If more information is needed, you will see an orange exclamation mark.  
     1. Provide the necessary information for the items needed.

3. Once the above steps are completed, click **Confirm and Place Order.**

 

### Bulk Upload

1. Click on the **Bulk Upload** tab on the left-hand side of your Vetty dashboard.
2. Click **Sample CSV File** to download the sample CSV file.
3. Delete the sample information and fill in the candidate's names and email addresses.
4. Click on the **Packages** tab on the left-hand side of the screen.
5. Copy the package ID(s) that you would like to use for the Bulk Upload.
6. Paste them in the package ID field.
7. Save the CSV file.
8. Upload the CSV on the **Bulk Upload** tab and click **Place Order.**

#### **Partner Integration**

To create an API key, head to **Settings** in Vetty, then **API Management.**

From here, you can create WebHooks as well as add API keys and disable API Keys.
