What does Review Needed mean?

If you’re staring at a Review Needed status, you might be wondering whether to celebrate, worry, or refresh your profile 10 more times. Good news: this status is not a judgment call, a decision, or a secret code for “uh-oh.” Here's what it actually means.

What Does Review Needed Mean?

Review Needed is simply a heads-up that your background check is complete and there’s something your potential employer needs to take a closer look at.

When your report wraps up, Vetty flags anything that your hiring team may want to review based on their policies. That could include criminal records, traffic infractions, employment or education differences, or other reportable items.

Think of it as us tapping the hiring team on the shoulder and saying, “Hey, you’ll want to look at this part.”

What Counts as a Discrepancy?

A discrepancy doesn’t have to be dramatic. Even tiny mismatches trigger a review.

If you listed your graduation date as May 2020 and the school reported June 2020, we’ll mark the file as Review Needed so the hiring team can take note. It’s a transparency thing, not a judgment thing.

Does This Mean I'm Disqualified?

No, Review Needed does not necessarily mean you’ve been denied or disqualified from employment or engagement. But Vetty doesn’t make hiring decisions, and we can’t offer insight into how any information might affect your chances. Only the company that requested your background check can make that call.

What Should You Do Next?

If you have questions about what this means for your application or what happens now, the best move is to contact the company who ordered your screening. They’ll have the full picture and can walk you through next steps.
