Why is my background check taking a long time?
Wondering where your background check stands? We get it — waiting isn’t fun. The good news? Vetty keeps things moving quickly and transparently so you’re never left in the dark. Here’s what to expect with your check (and what might slow things down).
How long do background checks take?
Background checks typically take 1–4 days, depending on which checks are being run. You can always log in to your Vetty profile at applicant.vetty.co to see exactly what’s happening with your check.
Why might my check be taking longer?
Sometimes, delays happen because of outside factors like county courts dealing with severe weather or backlogs. If you’ve lived in one of the affected counties, we’re just waiting for the court to send back your records so we can wrap things up.
Other times, we may just need a bit more info from you. Log in to your Vetty profile to see if there’s anything we’re missing. If we need something like your SSN, driver’s license, or I-9, you’ll see a red alert box guiding you on what to do next.
Checks that take a little extra time
Background checks that include employment or education verification (or reference checks) can take a little longer, since we have to reach out to third parties.
If you’re still in touch with a past employer or reference, give them a heads-up to keep an eye out for an email from Vetty, it’ll help move things along.
