How long does a drug test result take?
At Vetty, we know waiting for drug test results can feel a bit like watching your microwave count down: slow, suspenseful, and oddly personal. So, here’s exactly what to expect:
Negative Results
Most drug screens that come back negative are fast movers. You’ll typically see results within 3–5 business days.
Positive Results
If something comes back positive, the lab takes an extra step to get things right. This means:
-
Confirmation testing happens (just to be sure).
-
A Medical Review Officer (MRO) reviews everything.
-
This process can take up to 2 weeks.
If You Have a Prescription
No need to panic! If the result relates to a medication you’re legally prescribed, just reach out to the MRO. You’ll find their contact info right on your MRO report.
Answer Your Phone (Pretty Please)
MROs will try to reach you—multiple times, in fact. So, to keep things moving:
-
Make sure your voicemail isn’t full.
-
Answer unknown numbers if you’re expecting results, or call back ASAP if you miss them.
This part is important: The MRO can’t finalize your result until they’ve connected with you, so picking up the phone helps make sure your results are accurate and delivered without delay.
