Vetty Privacy Policy

INTRODUCTION

Vetty is committed to keeping personal information private. This privacy policy describes Vetty’s collection, protection, use, and disclosure of information about  Consumers (defined as candidates and employees undergoing Vetty screening) and visitors. It also explains the privacy practices we use when we prepare consumer reports (also called “investigative consumer reports” in California).

This privacy policy also explains how and why we use cookies and similar technologies, how Consumers can view their information on Vetty, and other privacy-related topics.

Please read this privacy policy carefully. By using Vetty or by clicking “I Agree” in our Candidate Portal, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to this privacy policy. If you have any questions, you can reach us at support@vetty.co. If you do not agree to any part of it, please do not use or register with Vetty.

WHAT WE COLLECT, AND WHY

Consumers

Vetty collects information about Consumers from the Consumers themselves, our customers, and third parties. Our customers are current and prospective employers, online marketplaces, and other digital businesses. The information we collect may include identifiers, public records, database records, electronic network activity, employment records, education records, occupational health records, and other types of information commonly collected for employment-related screening.

Vetty may also collect electronic network activity information from Consumers when they visit our site so that we can, for example, identify them and improve their use of our site.

We collect this information because employers hire us to conduct employment-related screening on Consumers. We also collect this information to communicate with Consumers about their screening. Finally, we collect some of this information to protect Vetty and its customers against illegal activities. 

Visitors 

Vetty may collect electronic record activity information, including cookies, from visitors to our site to analyze usage of our site and identify unique visitors. We may also ask visitors for their contact information and for information about their businesses if they are interested in doing business with Vetty.

DATA PROTECTION 

Vetty employs physical, procedural, and technical measures designed to secure the information we collect from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. Our technical measures include encryption, two-factor authentication, penetration testing, and more. However, no security measures are infallible, so we cannot absolutely guarantee the security of personal information.

Vetty retains and destroys Consumers’ information as required by law and industry standards.

DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION

Vetty discloses a Consumer’s information to the specific customer who has hired Vetty to conduct employment-related screening on the Consumer. We may also disclose information about a Consumer to identify them to information providers such as DMVs, courts, and contractors who help us gather screening information. Those contractors are required, by contract and by law, to keep the information we disclose confidential and to use it only for the purpose for which it is intended.

We make the disclosures described above only after obtaining  permission from the Consumer within our Candidate Portal. Vetty does not disclose Consumers’ (including California consumers’) information to any third party for marketing purposes

In the unlikely event that a government entity or third party seeks or requires a Consumer’s information from Vetty, we will notify the Consumer to the extent allowed by law.

Vetty may disclose aggregated, anonymized data relating to Consumers and site visitors as needed for the operation of our business.

Personal Information Disclosure: United States or Overseas. Vetty operates internationally and may send Consumers’ information to Vetty employees or contractors in other countries for processing. We employ the same strong security measures at all of our locations and while data is in transit.

COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES

Cookies are small text files downloaded and stored on your computer when you visit our site. We use these and similar technologies to improve people’s use of our site, to analyze trends, administer our site, compile user base demographics, and other purposes. If you do not want these technologies on your computer, you can find instructions online for how to adjust your browser settings and/or delete them. 

ACCESSING, CORRECTING, AND DELETING INFORMATION

If Vetty has screened you and you would like to view or download a copy of the report, go to https://applicant.vetty.co/login. You can also log in to your profile to change your email address or password.

You may also email us at support@vetty.co to request to access or dispute information about you.

CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS

Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Virginia may have rights under state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act (collectively, “CPRA”), the Colorado Privacy Act (“CPA”), the Connecticut Data Privacy Act (“CTDPA”), and the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (“VCDPA”).

State privacy laws generally DO NOT apply to information Vetty processes under the federal law governing background screening, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), and related state laws. When Vetty conducts background screening, Vetty follows the FCRA and related state laws and protects Consumer information under those laws. This means that rights granted to you by state privacy laws have limited or no application to the information about you that Vetty processes.

Here is more information about the privacy rights granted by the states listed in this section:

Right to know: California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Virginia residents have the right to know what categories of information have been collected about them and whether the information has been disclosed or sold for a business purpose in the past 12 months. The categories of information we collect and have disclosed about Consumers in the past 12 months are explained above in the section titled, WHAT WE COLLECT, AND WHY. We retain this information as allowed and required by law and by our agreements with our customers.

The ways in which we disclose information about Consumers, and the categories of third parties to whom we have disclosed it in the past 12 months, and explained in the section above titled DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION.

Right of Access: California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Virginia residents have the right to request access to their information. You can access your Vetty account through our Candidate Portal.

Right of Deletion: California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Virginia residents have the right to request the deletion of certain information. Please note, as stated above, that the FCRA and related state laws and our contracts with our customers require Vetty to retain information about Consumers for a minimum of six years, meaning we cannot delete information about you before then.  

Right to Non-Discrimination: Vetty does not discriminate against any Consumer attempting to exercise their privacy rights.

Rights regarding sensitive personal information: Prior to processing sensitive personal information, Vetty obtains Consumer consent whenever it is required. Vetty may process sensitive personal information of Colorado, Connecticut, or Virginia Consumers in the following categories: racial or ethnic origin, health, sexual orientation, and citizenship or immigration status.

California residents have the right to limit processing of sensitive personal information under the CPRA. Vetty may process the sensitive personal information of California Consumers as defined under California law, including the following categories: (1) racial or ethnic origin, (2) health, (3) sexual orientation, (4) social security number, driver’s license, state identification card, or passport number and (5) account log-in in combination with credentials allowing access to an account. Vetty may use such sensitive personal information only for the following purposes:

  • To the extent it is necessary to perform the services reasonably expected by the average Consumer who requested them;
  • To help ensure security and integrity to the extent the use of the Consumer’s personal information is reasonably necessary and proportionate for these purposes; and
  • Performing services on behalf of the business, including maintaining or servicing accounts, providing customer service, processing or fulfilling orders and transactions, verifying customer information, processing payments, or providing similar services on behalf of the business.

California ‘Do Not Track’ law: You may manage your cookies through your browser settings. Vetty.co does not respond to browser settings such as Do Not Track.

If you have rights under this section, Vetty will help you exercise these rights free of charge. To make a request related to state privacy laws, please contact us at support@vetty.co. If you make such a request, you must provide your full name; email address; phone number; and a copy of your driver’s license, state ID card, or passport so that we can verify your identity and protect Consumers’ accounts and information. If you authorize someone else to make a request on your behalf, that person must provide written proof of the authorization and a copy of their driver’s license, state ID card, or passport. We will use this identifying information only to verify your and your authorized agent’s identity, and we will not share it unless required by law.

ELECTRONIC NOTICES AND DISCLOSURES

Consumers access Vetty through vetty.co and related sites, and we communicate with Consumers through our site and by email and/or text messages. To use Vetty, you must agree that you: 

  • can access our site and read the information on it, 
  • have provided us with an accurate active email address and will update your email address if needed so that we can reach you, and
  • agree to receive notices and disclosures through our site or by other electronic means.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY 

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy from time to time. When we update this policy, we will change the Effective Date at the top. Please visit this policy periodically to check for updates. Your continued use of Vetty means that you understand and agree to any updates to this Policy.
