ID Verification Process

The ID Verification is a tool to use to verify a candidate's identity. The system takes a live ID scan and selfie of the candidate and flags any potential issues.

To add ID Verification to your Vetty services, please email your CSM or support@vetty.co

This will be covering the whole ID Verification flow. You can use the below links to jump to a place in the article if needed.

How to review an IDV Fail or Needs Review

When ID Verification (IDV) is in your Vetty package, your candidates will be prompted to scan the front and back of a government ID as well as take a selfie. Vetty uses a 3rd party IDV vendor named Veriff to run these scans and flag any potential issues with the scan. If you would like to learn more about what may flag, please see this article listing different IDV flags.

Candidate IDV Process

If a candidate has an ID Verification check in their package, after creating a password, they will be directed to scan their ID. They can use a smartphone with options #1 and #2 or a computer with option #3.

After choosing the method, they will be asked to scan an ID and take a selfie. In the US, Veriff accepts Passports, ID cards, Drivers Licenses or Residence Permits.
The candidate must ensure they allow their device access to the web app to take the photo scans.

After the selfie is complete, the candidate will carry on with the Vetty application and provide their consent for the screening.

ID Verification Decisions

Once the scan is complete, Veriff will make a decision about the ID scan. Those decisions are either Approved, Declined or Review. When a declined or review decision is made, Vetty will show additional reason codes for the decision. To read more about specific reason codes, take a look at this article.

Approved: Vetty received a positive conclusive decision from Veriff. The ID Verification will show Verified. A positive conclusive decision is made when the candidate has provided us with:

  • an upload of photos and/or a video
  • a valid document with a readable and matching  data
  • a clear/good quality portrait photo
  • a portrait photo that corresponds to the customer's photo on the document
Declined or Review: Vetty received a negative conclusive decision from Veriff. Either fraud was detected, there is a name mismatch or there was another severe reason for the person to be declined.
When a declined or review occurs, Vetty pauses all other items in the screening.

*If you decide to give the candidate another try, you need to create a new session by clicking Add New Check and adding a new ID Verification.

A negative conclusion decision is made when:
  • a physical document is not used
  • there is suspect document tampering
  • Veriff detects some suspicious behavior
  • the candidate showing the document does not appear to match the document photo
  • a velocity/abuse is present
  • a known fraud is present
  • the candidate is under 18 years of age
  • the name on the ID mismatched the name on the order. This is the name entered by whomever placed the order.

How to review a Review or Declined decision

After Veriff makes a determination, the ID Verification will either show Information Received, Verified, Review Needed or IDV Fail.

Information Received or Verified: The ID was approved by Veriff and the rest of the checks are in progress.

Review Needed: The IDV needs to be reviewed. Whomever placed the order in Vetty will also receive an email about this alert.

The rest of the Vetty screening is paused until your company makes a determination.

To review the IDV:

  1. Open the Vetty file.
  2. View the orange action box. This will provide you with the main reason code for the Review. The Vetty team will be uploading a pdf file of the full Veriff report. If this is not found on the file, please email us at support@vetty.co or chat our team. You can click on the thumbnails of the photos to download them and open them for review.
  3. You can read additional details on the "Reasons for Review" here.
  4. Make a determination for how to proceed. There are 5 different actions you can take.
    1. You can request the candidate to upload a new ID photo manually into Vetty. This will be added to the documents and disclosures section. The Vetty system will automatically remind the candidate 5 times over 5 days to upload the document. Once uploaded, you will receive an alert that they have completed the task and the email reminders will stop.
    2. You can request the candidate to upload a new selfie photo manually into Vetty. This will be added to the documents and disclosures section. The Vetty system will automatically remind the candidate 5 times over 5 days to upload the document. Once uploaded, you will receive an alert that they have completed the task and the email reminders will stop.
    3. You can select "Add New Checks" (found in the top of the candidate profile) to add a new ID Verification to give the candidate another chance at the automated ID Verification.
    4. You can select "Meets Hiring Criteria" to move the file forward, regardless of the flags. Doing this will mark the ID Verification as "Verified."
    5. You can select "Doesn't Meet Hiring Criteria" to move the file into the IDV Fail status.

IDV Fail: IDV failures happen in cases where the candidate is under 18 years old or if it has been longer than 21 days and they have not completed the process.

If you would like to proceed with a candidate that is under 18, please email us at support@vetty.co or chat our team using the live chat.

If it has been longer than 21 days and you would like to keep the file active, you can either place a new order or email or chat us. Our technical team will need to assist with reseting the time frame on the file. There will be an additional charge for a new ID session.
